A child's toys become alive . . .
A Writer’s Cramp poem (24 hours/ under 40 lines)

New Prompt: You wake to find all the toys in the house have come to life.

When Mommy’s Not There

Whenever I open up my eyes

the fun around me multiplies,

for my toys have come to life!

A soldier fences with a penknife

pretending he’s a scary threat.

My sister's doll performs a pirouette.

My rubber ball grows two huge eyes.

The cow starts singing lullabies.

The spotty pony sits right down

to read a tale 'bout a silly clown.

A pair of scissors cavorts

across the floor to land on sheep

which run about plaintively baaing

while the painted cat is pawing

at the wind-up mouse beside him.

All this occurs behind the door

after Mom says, “Sleep, little chap.

It’s past time for your nap.”

Then the toys all come alive

probably cause I’m almost five,

old enough to be on my own.

When Mommy leaves me all alone,

I lie real still and close my eyes,

then wiggle and let out several sighs.

Soon I hear a sneeze, a giggle, a cough,

and my favorite teddy starts them off

with a band of donkeys playing the fife.

It’s such fun when toys come to life!
