An ironic tale about a suprise party, a promotion, and a man who missed it all.
"Thanks for the invitation. I'll be sure to attend."
I would never go to Ted's silly little party.

"Of course I'm coming. I have it written in my planner."
This will be an easy event to get out of.

"Hi, it's Jake. I'm just calling to RSVP."
I’ll give some lame excuse tomorrow.

"Hey Ted, it's Jake. I'm sorry to call last minute, but something very important just came up. I won't be able to attend."
Ha. That was easy. Now how about pizza and a movie, just me. I need some alone time. This will be such a relaxing night.

"Hey Jenny, I'll have the five dollar special, pepperoni please."
"Thanks. Have any movie suggestions for me? I'm headed over there."
"Sounds good. I do love that Forrest Gump movie. He kind of reminds me of my gullible boss. I can watch that movie over and over. It never gets old."

Dammit the key always gets stuck in the ignition.
"Ouch! What do you want? My wallet? I don't have it. I only have cash on me. Fifteen dollars. Take it. Here. Just please don't hurt me!"

What was that noise? What is that stinging sensation?
What is that ringing sound? Why is it so dark?
Hello? Help? Anyone?
Why can't I see any more? What just happened?
Am I sleeping? I am so tired.

. . . . . . . . . .

"Excuse me, excuse me everyone."
"Thank you all for coming to Jake's surprise promotional party,
But there's a small problem.
Jake had something come up and couldn't make it.
But please stay and have a good time.
Tomorrow we will tell Jake how much fun we had at his party, without him."

. . . . . . . . . .

"Good morning, Sam. Good morning, Betsy. Hey, Harold."
"Mona, is coffee made in the lounge?"
"No, I haven't heard? What? No that can't be right."
"Jake told me something very important came up."
"He's gone?"
"He bought pizza and a movie?"
"Now he's gone?"
"He lied to me?"
He lied to me!
