A poem about brotherly love and fear
It is now clear, at least to me, why we must love our neighbors
Yes, we are commanded to do so, but now I know why
It is not merely because God is testing to see if we are able
Rather, it is because we are all we have, all we have is each other

When the floods swarm over us
We need the love of each other to keep us afloat

When the flames consume us
It is the bravery of another that is needed to pull us out

When we crumble in fear
It is the support of others that can pick up the pieces

Without the love of others, we are left to our own defenses
Alone we are weak, but together we are strong
It is love that binds, but it is fear that separates

In the world we live in, a fearful pride and illegitimate selfishness abound
Brotherly love calleth out, but does anybody hear?

It is now clear, at least to me, why we shy away from loving our neighbors
Though, commanded to do so, the fear from within deafens our ears
It is not merely because we are an unhelpful people
Rather, it is a fear of involvement that breaks the chain of unity, weakening us all
It is a fear to know whether we are even capable to love one another
