After the Space Shuttle - what's next? (Twitterpated 140 Word Challenge, Rd. 3).
Ad Astra?


"What will the astronauts do now, daddy?  You said, the space shuttles won't fly any more."

"That's true, buddy, but the Space Station's still there, right?"

"Yeah."

"Well, some will retire and some will move on.  Many will stay in the program, though, because we need to finish the Station.  They'll just fly there from someplace else."

"Will they ever go to another star?"

"That's decades away, Pete.  The next step is Mars, and that's gonna take a lot of work."

"If I join NASA when I grow up, will I get to go?"

"I don't know, son.  It'd be pretty neat, though, to have another Pete Conrad in space!"

"Another Pete Conrad?"

"Yeah.  You were named for him.  Let me tell you a little bit about him.  He was the third American to go into space, and..."
