A free verse poem about a short summer "love." Contest Entry

Youth camp, with people just like me
and fun activities, steals my loneliness away.
I become alive again when my eyes fall
on sweet, dear Madeline. Like an angel
from the sky, she carries herself so gracefully.
My senses declare our hearts are meant
to be mended, always, throughout the seasons.
A flame within my soul ignites for her love
but summer’s almost over and we will soon go
our separate ways. Heartbreak and depression
bear down hard as I realize this love so true is coming
to naught as I return to my prison of loneliness.
