A short piece I wrote in High School, when I first started experimenting with poetry
The conflict arrives, the recruiters come
And deal out, from the palm of their hand.
Cards that will, forever the senses numb
So that the front lines might be fully manned.

They will be sent off, a far away land
Is where they will stay, witness to evil
No man should have to have at their own hand
And they will ponder their choice, the Devil.

In their eyes will be seen, the truth of the just
Cause that has drawn them to fight in a war
And, to live, they kill innocent men, bust
Through age old lines of nations to reach par.

And trample underfoot those in the mud,
The ground stained red with innocent men’s blood.
