A parody of the song 1985.
This is a parody of the song 1985 by the band SR-17, though the most well-known version is undoubtedly by Bowling for Soup. The original song came out in 2004 and was a reflection on how much pop culture had changed since the 1980s with plenty of references to both past and present pop culture, especially music. The song also commented on the recent fascination among young people with 1980s culture which was just starting to be considered classic. I wrote this parody to comment on the fact that a similar phenomenon is happening right now with 1990s culture. Other similar parodies exist on the internet, but none compared pop culture with much depth, so I wrote my own. Writing credits must be shared with the original songwriters Mitch Allan, John Allan and Jaret Reddick. Enjoy:

Kristy just hit the wall
She couldn't have it all
One Starbucks a day
Her life got in the way
She'd had all her fun
When she turned thirty-one
Now it's all downhill
Time for another pill

She was gonna be the cover
Of a magazine
She was gonna spike her hair
And rage against the machine
It all came undone
In the new millenium
She hasn't had... any... fun... since

Nirvana and Green Day
Way before Beyonce'
There was Spice girls and A*Teens
Britney was only thirteen
Her children in high school
Tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
with 19... 19... 1995

She loves classic sitcoms
Seen every episode
Friends, Frasier, Home Improvement
And even Boy Meets World
Her favorite was Pearl Jam
Not a big Skrillex fan
Though that she would land
A spot in an all girl-band

The hell is dubstep?
And emo bangs?
And who's the new singer in Alice in Chains?
When did the internet... replace TV?
Whatever happened to...
TG... IF... (and on the radio was...)

Nirvana and Green Day
Way before Beyonce'
There was Spice girls and A*Teens
Britney was only thirteen
Her children in high school
Tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
with 19... 19... 1995

Where did all... the time go?
When did Weezer become retro?
And when did Tupac... become a hologram?
Please make this... stop... stop... STOP! *tck*tck*tck*
(and bring back)

Nirvana and Green Day
Way before Beyonce'
There was Spice girls and A*Teens
Britney was only thirteen
Her children in high school
Tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
with 1995 and

Nirvana and Green Day
Way before Beyonce'
There was Spice girls and A*Teens
Britney was only thirteen
Her children in high school
Tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
with 19... 19... 1995
