Wild reflection
Summer Solitude

Granite slabs gently glide beneath the water’s edge,
as rolling waves lap and retreat
carving soft ridges in the shoreline

Landing in a bed of needles,
a weighty tome across my lap.
Pages open to ancient passages,
guidance from the past.

Eyes closed in contemplation,
hands draped across my lap.
Breathing slows, chest barely rises.
Musk of pine fills my lungs.
Chickadee, wren, nuthatch,
squirrel and chipmunk.
Alone amongst the crowd.

Wind gently blows across my cheek.
Life stirs in forgotten places.
Mind clearing, filling, flowing out to meet
fresh intentioned littered on forest floor.

I carve my name upon the universe,
rolling in and out of life’s eternal score.
The edge of time glides gently along the shore.
