Another day begins...
“Not yet…” I reluctantly open my eyes…trying to get my bearings. “ Oh, slept at the other end of the bed.” I reach over my head instead of to my side for my iPhone, swipe the face to turn off the alarm while grimacing to read the time before it goes miniscule.

“Annoying ring…gotta fix that…well, it wakes me up…”

“Not getting up now, it’s only 7:15.  Great! I can take another 15 minutes, and can take 15 more after that…even 30.  I can be ready in a half hour…gonna re-tread what I wore to church anyway…”

“Not ready to get up…”  I fade into the haziness of early morning semi-consciousness.  Aarghh, so stiff “…did I take Tylenol last nite? Must have, shoulder not trippin’…”  As I labor to roll toward the wall I squint at the window, “No excuse not to go in. Gray but no snow or rain I don’t think…traffic shouldn’t be too bad.”  I gingerly turn my aging limbs to lie more or less flat on my back.  ”Where’s the other pillow?…don’t care.”  I smother myself with the pillow close at hand, not ready for the imposing and clearly in place light of day.

More phone alarm noise. “So soon?”  I disarm the alarm, again. Glance at the time again. Tell myself I have 15 minutes again.  Bury my head into my pillow…again.

Brief trip from sleep to reality… No sound from downstairs or in the kitchen. “The “people” are probably waiting to hear me move around before they get up…Will baby girl have enough time to get ready? She’ll have to, I’m not moving.”

Eyes open involuntarily. “Still have 5 minutes.”  Eyes close, body relaxes…for 2, 3, 4 minutes? Eyes open again.  “I got 1 minute.” Eyes close.  Almost dreaming.  Eyes open again. Body sits up on side of bed, giving  no thought to the effort.  Loud and verily horrifying yawn. Time to make the donuts.
