Winter

It is Winter
And I see pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky,
Fuzzy squirrels scampering
Gathering nuts
Preparing for the winter,
And children playing outside
On their snowboards
In the deep snow.

It is Winter
And I smell fresh hot cocoa
Cooking in the microwave,
Smoke from the logs
Burning in the fireplace
At my grandmother’s house
And rich spicy pumpkin pie
Baking in the oven
For our dinner.

It is Winter
And I taste warm pumpkin pie
Spicy in my mouth,
Cold wet snow as it melts
On my tongue
As it falls,
And chunky chili
That my mom
Fixes for supper.

It is Winter
And I feel cold sparkling snow
When I play outside,
My furry warm coat
When I am hanging it
In my closet,
And the hard cold snowballs
I throw at my cousins
When we play war.

It is Winter
And I hear the wild wind blowing
Through the trees,
The stomping of people’s boots
In the hard snow
Walking to my house.
And children laughing
As they are building
A giant snowman.

It is Winter.
