The most lasting part of all: love isn't perfect - a poem.
With its uproarious bounty and steadfast crew,
Love’s rowdy and reckless ship
Sails forward and beyond;
During countless days and nights
On the frustrating high seas,
The staunch crew scurries and scrubs,
Led by a courageous captain
Of shrewd intellect and prophetic know-how.
Along for the ride are his dependable first mate,
A fine cook, and a host of maps
And cross-eyed navigational tools.

Of utmost importance is
The finicky assemblage of hearty rascals
Comprising the crew,
A band of misfits and rebels
Culled from the meanest docks and most raucous taverns –
That rough and disciplined horde
Giving their most stringent, loyal oath to serve
Their vessel’s time-honored captain.

Love is the unforgiving, worldly balance
In any woman or man’s
Notable, yet prescriptive checkbook,
Where family, friends, and partners
Form the total, finite package –
A means, mode, and utility
Befitting the most sought-after luxury liner
Headed due east on the balmy, yet windy seas.
