What were they thinking?
The Cost of Rubber

There it was a massive structure
The Michelin Rubber Plantation
Making money as it always had
Between Cambodia and Saigon

A sanctuary for the communists
And a staging area for the NVA
Beneath it was an elaborate tunnel
System to store food and ammo

Surrounded by many rubber trees
US soldiers had to avoid this area
They couldn't damage those trees
If we did our country paid dearly

What were our leaders thinking
Telling our soldiers to fight but
Don't hurt the precious rubber trees
Our soldiers didn't have it hard enough

Knowing the enemy was there
And not being able to get to them
Sending men to fight is one thing
Tying their hands is another

When is a tire worth more than a soldier
