There is no greater pain than the betrayal of a friend.
Tempered blade of sharpened steel,
A sword to slay the muse,
To slice the air, to spin and reel
A death of what you choose.

I am the pain of the winter's ice,
Treacherous beneath your feet;
Brittle words will break by stroke and slice,
A white and cold conceit.

Malicious, heartless, and so trite!
I am the doorless room,
The sunless day, the starless night,
The faithless lover's doom.

Betrayal is my name, and I am swift
And merciless on my prey;
I wrap a careless, scheming gift
The deepest love I lead astray.
