Total eclipse of the moon.
Through seas of stars you sail tonight,
o’er atmosphere as rising maestro.
Tug tightly on the ocean vast,
assume your pull upon the sea!
Light landscape in reflection full.

Ease into shadow cast in space,
conical as an umbra geometric.
Let light fade, let the night prevail!
Is your leave a mere lunar safari?
Perhaps old Sol makes craters gasp,
sending skyward ancient dust in plumes.
Either way, I am saddened by your leave.

O moon I need your to and fro
formed by time’s persistent runoff.
Tell me why from sight you defect
headstrong, as if a stubborn sigh,
eager to drink darkness alone,
merging with a cosmic continuum.
Only now a sliver returns so,
(Orion provides hunter’s woo),
nexus with nature a regeneration.
