A rhyming poem of lost love.
The Bleeding Price

Where has my love, from long days flown?
Away to mythic lands unknown.
A South Easterly current 'rose,
And bore my grief, which daily grows.

A lock of hair, three inches long,
my fingers sing, in injured song.
My Nancy, nearly thirty years,
has left me broken, heart in tears.

In love and life, devout and true,
she came with joyous, sunlit hew,
then walked away like melting ice,
So now I pay the bleeding price.

For fifteen years I've drifted ... lost,
in ruins, empty days, my cost.
No light, all eyes of trust obscured,
if only broken hearts be cured.

But cursed, to wake in horrid pain,
where tears are wept for pointless gain,
I pray for peace that never comes,
my prayers seem mute, o'er harping strums.

The only hands I wish to hold,
my love, who knew our days of gold,
is gone, her laughter and her song,
though to my love, I still belong.

To you, who think me all the fool,
who stand, and judge, and ridicule,
hold back your human thoughts of scorn,
lest true love find you ... make you mourn.
