A different kind of poem, about a very real and close topic that most writers come to live

Like some dope
On his frayed rope
Trying my best
While
Further I digress
Deeper and deeper
Off into the recesses
Adding to the madness
Senior mucho loco
Fits nicely on a t-shirt
Both front and back
But that just not it
I have lots to say
More to find its way
To be properly conveyed
Mi Canto La Esperanza
Hmmm, would you please
Sing along with my song
But only if you understand
Only if you know such words
Then stand up and shout
Fight to be heard
Just as many often do
Let them all know
Se Habla Española
Be quicker and say
The universal indication
Of increasing dismay
If that’s what it will take
No
Nyet
Nine
Nada whole lotta
Play dumb if you wish
If you don’t understand
Or lack an ability to try to
My secret, thus will be kept
Does language even matter
Or is context king on this road
I guess I could have said it
Spelled it significantly different
Maybe
Mon Chant D'espoir
But if you ask me
It lacks any panache
Maybe
I guess I could have said
Ich Bin Ein Berliner
But truthfully that won’t fit
Because I am neither
German nor a Berliner
That’s not it
Mi Canto La Esperanza
Just seems to work out fine
If French
Is the language of lovers
And German
Is the language of certain madmen
Then Spanish is the language
Of people working at living
People getting busy doing
What always must be done
For the sake of completion
For the sake of preponderance
I guess I could just translate
I guess I could go from Spanish
To some dead kings proper English
But I won’t being doing that
I’m in love with the idea
Of people way out there
Those beyond the page
Those that I’ll never really know
But know everything about me
I’m obsessed with the idea
Of them deciphering meaning
Translating it both
Literally and verbally
For twisted writers like me
Those few sacred loons
Those undesirable to most
Finding meaning and understanding
Regardless of language and context
Is like treasuring hunting in the dark
Stubbing our toes as we go
Cursing the god above and below
Hating every minute
Of all that we would never change
Knowing as long as we persist
Well find what it is we missed
And what it is we were meant
Mi Canto La Esperanza
Yup
I’ll just leave it at that…
