A poem about abuse and vengeance.
The Candle

An insignificant flame
Burning despair
Cooling shadows flee
The tiny flickering light
Hot,bright
Singes the air
Chasing the tears
As I rock myself
Some comfort there
Bruises in so familiar places
Unable to stop the
Path he has chosen
To tear my heart
To pieces

Just one tiny flame
Leaps with joy
But my heart
Icy hard
With grief
Never ending
Oh! Such pain
My breath causes
This tiny flame
To flicker
Leaving grey shadow
On the walls
My skin looks lovely
In this light
The bruises are insignificant
But such power my
Breath has over the
Little flame

If only I had this power
Over his punishing fists
Blow gently and extinguish him
Like the fire in my little container
But I cannot
For now I will take refuge
In the shadow of my suicidal dream
Sleep fitfully
Until dawn brings new bruises
Fading to yellow and green
His memory dying in my mind
As new hope breathes
The candle
Melted
Cold and forlorn
But I live on
And he cannot reach me
Anymore
