For the victims of MH17, and those they left behind.

Too near the grief, too new the sting,
to work out what to say.
But from this broken heart I'll try
to somehow find a way.

In silence and bewilderment
we all learned of your fate
unfolding on a summer's day
which started at your gate.

Your dreams, your hopes, your cheerful eyes,
your laughter bittersweet-
All stolen in a moment's time
at 30,000 feet.

I'd like to think that even though
you fell out of the sky-
You simply shed your mortal shell,
grew wings, and learned to fly.

For every soul now lost to us-
to those who must remain-
small comfort may there be in that
to ease some of our pain.

And even as you're coming home
to be at peace at last,
we hold dear the memories
of what lies in the past.

A star there is for each of you
of never-fading light,
burning brightly now for all of us
to guide us through this night.

So even though our days are bleak
and though we mourn you still,
a part of you is here with us
and so it always will.

For every shriek and quiet sob,
for every tear we're cried-
As long as we remember you,
you've never truly died.
