Love's Smile

How pales the beauty of a rose
to but a moon cast shadow of
the blissful charm that sweetly glows
in rapture of the one I love.

The nightingale in throaty call
though glorious its ecstasy—
a faded echo dim and dull
when measured by her melody.

Within these dreams, I hear and see
the hope that makes a life worthwhile,
my sleeping heart leaps joyfully
to be awakened by her smile.
