An inspiration from a video clip of historical place.
Sole Witness

Labor
intense,
they couldn't complain.
cloud of dust,
they couldn't breathe.
load of bricks.
they couldn't rest.
Thus, I was made.

Conflict
aroused,
they couldn't hide.
cloud of smoke,
lurking death.
broken shield,
loathe conceited.
Thus, I was destroyed.

Peace
obtained,
Yet, they couldn't succeed.
To flourish is to change.
To change is to forget.
Thus, I was forsaken.

Progress
attained,
they couldn't resist.
To stop is their downfall.
To sleep is to fail.
Thus, I was restored.

Once standing erect
a fortress to protect.
Now standing again
to remind all

That within my walls
echoes the voice:
the pains, the sufferings,
the triumphs, aspirations,
the past, and the present
of this beloved nation.
