A prose poem about love as viewed by adults and children - an exploration of innocence.
That perfect innocence we once knew
As proud and thunderous children -
Those cute moments spent in sheer isolation
Or the grandest, most exquisite get-togethers -
Seem to tower over the sinful
And perplexingly graceless days
Of callous adulthood;
Love appears to be nothing more than
A roving hoard of looting and pillaging thieves
Intent on their own deliberate and demeaning vices.
Then, suddenly and miraculously,
These ghostly and despicable demons
Are caught, tried, and jailed,
And we are left clinging to worthless memories
Of this changeless, mediocre,
And uninviting specter...

If we could relive our glorious days of youth,
That improbable mercy would rival
The most sought-after and heavenly angel
That God could ever produce
To grant peace and serenity
In our daily lives...
