I see and hear this so often.

Always changing, it will never be the same,
Sometimes he'll recognize my face, but doesn't say my name.
I look at picture albums, the story of our life,
The memories he no longer has, does he even know that I'm his wife?

Alzheimer's Disease, it has destroyed our last years of joy.
Most of the memories he has now are of when he was a boy.
I never would have imagined our lives would turn this way,
My husband had a career, he raised a family and now he stumbles through each day.

Today I walked into his room, the room that's  now his home,
I didn't have another choice he was starting to roam,
Today he looked up and smiled at me as he had all our life,
He had tears in his eyes as he touched my face and whispered, "this is my wife".
