The pursuit of a man by an unknown assailant.
It was dark.
Sinister clouds blocked the moon's rays of light from reaching the ground.
A cold draft lingered in the air as rain poured down in each direction.
Not even the town's light reached my location.
Rain pelted my black poncho as I ran from my assailant.
His footsteps were muffled by the roaring thunder overhead.
My destination was in sight.
A chapel in the center of a graveyard abandoned long ago.
His footsteps hastened as did mine.
I could feel his heavy boots shake the ground as he drew near.
Hopefully I could make it in time to end his frenzied pursuit.
I reached the entrance to the graveyard, having to jump over a rusted black fence.
My poncho tore and was ensnared within the fence.
I left it behind.
My shadowy other would have gotten to me before I could unhinge it from the fences grasp.
I continued running, weighted down by my drenched clothes.
The doors of the chapel were near, as was my assailant.
I could almost feel his heavy breathing reach the back of my neck.
The doors were near and I could tell sanctuary was beyond them.
I reached for the door, opening it and closing it as fast as possible.
I could hear the pounding of the man's fist against the wooden door.
I sighed and tried to catch my breath as I knew I was safe here.
The chapel was almost completely empty, only a few pieces of furniture remained.
A chair that has a noticeable rupture could be found on it.
A cross, that hung in the center of the front wall.
Shards of broken stained glass littered the floor, letting rain flow in through the holes.
Lightning was my only source of light, giving me an eerie vibe.
The incessant banging finally came to a stop.
He gave up.
I slipped into a deep sleep, not caring about my condition.
I won this time, Brandon.
