A man so wise, and yet so broken..a poem about Methuselah
He said, you know?
There's much to be learned from the trees
They've watched the earth
For thousands of years
Each ring represents
Survival long surpassing our own
Death we so fear
Little did I know
My future soon would be showered
With thousands of tears
Numbered more than the hair on my head
Years ago, at the dinner table
His mother had shot his heart dead
Nothing foreshadowed the coming doom
I was captured by his words anew
I didn't see through
The deep sea of sadness
In those eyes of faded blue
No such love existed
Strong enough
Like gorilla glue
To keep him from
Breaking my heart in two
