Poem for the Shadow and Light poetry contest
                                Dirt stains my shoes
As I walk down a country road
                                       Leaves rustle in the trees
                                       When birds hear my approach.

Pine needles and rocks crunch under my feet
As a deer leaps across the road
                                       Spooked by my nearby scent
He runs away, tail flagging, I smile at his beauty.

I look up into the blue northern sky
                                       Imagining shapes in the clouds
                                       Brisk air assaults me
Just a simple walk in Northern Michigan.
