Villanelle poem for a contest
THE LADYBUG’S BALL

The ladybugs dance both far and near,
On green leaves soft and wet with dew,
To a rhythm only they can hear.

Does ladybug music fill each ear?
While they do dances old and new,
The ladybugs dance both far and near.

Do manbug partners join their tier?
Dancing like the Ladies do,
To a rhythm only they can hear.

Poor wallflower bugs might shed a tear,
For they’d like to be dancing too.
The ladybugs dance both far and near.

Does the dancing romance one that’s dear?
While they step back, then out and through,
To a rhythm only they can hear.

They need no stylish dancing gear,
Just ladybugs aligned in queue,
The ladybugs dance both far and near.
To a rhythm only they can hear.
