Love dies eventually.
She gently reaches for me in the darkness.
She cannot see me or hear me but she knows I am there
The touch of her hand on me shows me I am too far gone
She is waiting for me to move but I won’t, I can’t.
I do not feel her anymore and she will soon know this.
She will soon see the love gone in my eyes

She draws her hand back from the coldness of my skin
Realisation brings her half waken gesture into full focus
Her mind knows what has happened but her heart will reach again for hope.
My heart is now cold and I will not face her again.
I will never look at her lovingly again, I won’t, I can’t
I have turned and so I will never turn again

The sound of weeping breaks the midnight silence
She has been waiting for this to happen.
The other shoe has dropped and I will leave her
I have loved her for so long but I can’t no more
It had to end sometime and I wish there was another way
She will keep crying but I will not console her
I will no longer embrace her in the shield of my arms
I won’t, I can’t.
