inspired by Edgar Allan Poe
The ticking of the clock,
restless feet a jittery off-beat clash.
And how you would so mercilessly mock
my private kingdom of discarded trash.

You're quite insane but very dear to me,
although my patience may lack.
Just like the shore has the seas,
You've always found your way back.

But you dare not stare at me now,
yet I know your train of thought.
For me to serve head bowed,
a minor actor in cheap plots.

But I hear the wind's howl,
the soothing scream so numbingly serene.
But still you whisper words so foul,
so non-descript I cannot fathom what you mean.

Beyond the open window there is an end to strife,
promise of dawns light and fresh air.
I've never been so terrified in all my life,
in wild fear I cling to this chair.

But my mind has been made, so make your move.
We both know I got nothing left to prove.
You're desperate for another way
it's clear.
But you've never been able to reach me past
the mirror.
