Dissociation
The still reflection disturbs me,
tortured frame empty.
What we see is not always what it seems.
I try to look away but cannot,
inexplicably drawn to this melancholy.

People lie, but the eyes cannot,
images reflected.
Now deeper within, the suffering.
Left defenseless, I know you,
I attempt to flee, but I am caught.

Distorted dreams viewed in silence,
perception versus reality.
All of my senses touched, suffocating.
Screaming to be set free,
finger to cheek, a single tear makes its way in silence.

The still reflection disturbs me,
tortured frame empty.
What we see is not always what it seems.
I am you and you are me,
I gather my strength and walk away from the mirror.
