Cause strange things can happen

Bald headed ladies, whisper to each other

Their lives have been placed on hold

They wear those knock off fashions

Adorned with some fool's gold

Their lips are too puffy

Their boobs are too fake

Their hands are in your pockets

Because they're all on the take

They look at you with smoldering eyes

Every minute a new surprise

You try to act like a movie star

Because that's how things get done

When you're east of Zanzibar



Dancing girls in red velvet gowns

Gyrate to the crazy sounds

With lips meant to be kissed

Curves I can't resist

They got those disco lights flashing

All dressed in high fashion

Below dim lit chandeliers

Cool green ferns hide desperate leers

The place is really jumping

In my chest the bass is thumping

Dancing with drag queens & queers

The whole scene is quite bizarre

But it's just an average day

When you're east of Zanzibar



Today I went fishing with Hemingway

Last night I slept with the Queen

Tonight I'm getting drunk with Jean Renoir

We're meeting at the Moonlight Bar

You never know who you will meet
