Before stepping on that bug, you might want to consider if your situation was reversed.
Choices

People often climb tall, dangerous mountains
just because they're there.
They also do so
just because they can.

People often take the lives of animals
just because they're there--
creatures that creep, crawl,
slither and wiggle.

Entities that were here
long before ourselves
and will likely be around
long after.

People sometimes decide
to let the small things live,
not just because
they choose to do so,

But just because they can.
