A voyage never taken, a shore never reached
Maiden Voyage

The ship, it sailed long ago
I never bought the ride
My nerves weren’t put away or stowed
An ego on the slide
Pick the battles you can win
A cautious soul won’t soar
But the spirit knows its limits when
It’s not the body’s war
There’s just no point in signing for
A voyage doomed to fail
Best to row the boat ashore
... let the wind take sail
And watch that great ship cut across
An ocean made of waves
Waves that were not yours, no loss
Yet still the heart it craves
The fantasy, what might have been?
Another ebb, a different tide
X marks the spots my soul was seen
Like treasure it now hides
And hopefully the wind, it knows
How much it will be missed
But that ship sailed long ago
… still port to stern it lists
