A poem about feeling trapped in an unfeeling world.
How can we break these
Chains that bind us so?
This unseen burden
That enslaves us all,
Perpetuates
This lie we live.
How can we hope for better
While there is no lingering
Vestige of the light
Of true liberty?

O, Can you feel the love
Of the world in its
Meaningless, clockwork killings?
Why must they keep insisting on
Continuing their
Pursuit of darkness
And rejecting
The legitimacy
Of obvious truths?
Can they not see evil,
Revealing itself
Through their own hatred?
Why is the world blind
To its injustice?
Why must the evil thrive,
Yet the good die?

O, Misery, do
You find some refuge
In my suffering?
O, Malady, why
Do you plague me so?
O, Deceit, what has
Caused thee to trick me thus?

O, Compassion,
Where have you gone?
O, Mercy, have you
Died at the edge
Of their infernal blade?
O, Justice,
Have they hung thee
With the guilty?
O, Life,
In which grave have they
Entombed thee?
O, Freedom,
Can you not escape
Your enslavement either?
