A short English sonnet I wrote and had the courage to use in a public project.
We all wear masks,
It's plain to see.
It is the nature in which we bask,
And will always be.

It's a lie we wear,
Like the clothes on our back,
To our friends that we share,
The common interest we lack.

A smiling piece of plastic,
Shows a silly grin,
And while drastic,
Becomes a second skin.

We hide behind the mask we wear,
People become accustom to the mask.
Pretending that bad things aren't there.
Taking it for granted and forgetting the task.

I hide my face behind a thousand masks,
Perhaps i'll remove them one day,
But now hoping each one will erase the last,
Whether it be sooner or a long time away.

We are not all really what we seem,
I hide my face behind a thousand more.
We all hope to be what is or dream,
I take them off and whisper "no more"
