A rhyming poem about my memories of some unusual birds I saw in Costa Rica years ago.
I toured Costa Rica some twenty years ago.
Among the unusual sights I got to see
were the many different birds I came to know.
Being a bird lover, these filled my heart with glee.

A large flock of wild parrots gathered each morning
outside of my hotel window in trees nearby.
Their loud squawking awakened me without warning.
Their loud green and yellow colors so pleased my eye.

Our small tour van stopped at a roadside viewing site
at a tropical valley. Hummingbird feeders
drew many species that hung suspended in flight --
all sizes and colors of these aerial speeders.

At a small roadside café we stopped for our lunch
of black beans and rice, plus to fill the van with gas.
Brightly colored, big-billed Toucans hopped in a bunch
begging food. As I sat, one reached up and bit my … butt.
