Security or Change?

SECURITY OR CHANGE?

I took the same road every day.

Familiar then, it seemed to say,

“This is the way that’s safe, that’s right.”

Bathed in an incandescent light.



There are no traps, there are no snares,

no fearful threats, no shadowed cares.

Enjoy the easy, carefree life,

avoiding pain, avoiding strife.



Just follow down the well-worn track,

steer clear of questions; don’t look back.

But who can tell, and who can know

which way tomorrow’s wind will blow.



But on this path – will meaning fly?

And make my life an easy lie?

And does it mean I can’t be free?

So is there no free will for me?



Another time, another day,

I found a different, shadowed way.

That offered through a misty light,

a purpose worthy of the fight.



Might it be that struggle brings.

Finer, brighter, better things?

A challenge, then, to compensate

for ignorance, for spite and hate.



The road ahead is harsh and hard,

a contest now, in every yard.

A fight for sense, a fight for grace

to make the world a better place.



A choice for easy or for tough,

a payment, only just enough.

As time advances we shall be

beholden to eternity.



So when it comes our time to leave,

to not look back and helpless, grieve.

But know that we have used our voice,

to make a statement, make a choice.



No hell below, no heaven above.

So leave the world with only love.

The only gift we all can give

makes this a better place to live.
