I want to wake up, find it's not true.

Permanent

A permanent solution
to a temporary problem.
Moments seeking dissolution.
Dark rays on a spectrum.
Hidden behind a final curtain.

That smile.

Brilliant minds, with troubled thought.
Why - my visions overwhelm.
Questions abound, answers sought.
Dreams of a different realm.
Words in my brain, a battle fought.

That smile.

Children left behind, friends, love.
Unimaginable pain, vanishes, escape.
And yet it remains, fits like a glove.
Pictures of father and son at the lake.
Why - my thoughts push and shove.

That smile.

I want to wake up, find it's not true.
Look in his eyes, they light up the room.
Each day begins, no solution in view.
It's not just a dream, reality my doom.
It's unfair I cannot bid my friend adieu.

That smile.

Memories consume, so many to choose.
Lives touched, too short a while
Unknown inside there was a lit fuse.
Thoughtful, kind, always that smile.
Unquantifiable. So much to lose.

An amazing man, the world has lost.
A priceless gift, gone at unfathomable cost.
