A small burning flame of hope still exists though the future from here on is uncertain.
A Flicker of Hope

Sometimes a person enters our life
Who, from the first moment we meet them
We just knew, our lives would never be the same again.
But sometimes in life, things happen that we don’t understand
And sometimes we make mistakes that we wish we could take back,
But who am I to say what will be, and what will not be.
I can’t change the past, but I can’t foretell the future either.
But then again, maybe it is meant to be this way
With me here, and you there
And situations as they are, to remain unchanged.

The day we first met,
I just knew you were different, special in someway
Unlike anyone I’d ever met before, or since.
Like a moth to a flame, I was drawn to you
Without any reasonable explanation to guide me,
Other than this feeling of certainty deep in my gut,
An inner knowing, that from that moment forward
Life would never be the same.

For one look into your blue eyes
And I just knew, without a shadow of a doubt,
That I’d just met someone important.
Though, I wouldn’t call it love at first sight
More of a pull of energy,
A strong intuitive inclination, of inevitability.
For in your eyes, I could see forever,
A mirror of myself reflecting back.

Though only God knows if my assumptions correct,
That you are, the One for me,
But due to misfortune, our paths crossed at the wrong time
At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.
But who am I to make any definite statements
About the future fate of two hearts?
Though as I sit here, in my room writing this poem,
Thinking about you,
I must admit a small flicker of hope still burns.

A flame that no matter what I think, say or do,
Refuses to be extinguished.
For I still hope that maybe, one day, years from now
We’ll meet in a coffee shop in some far away city
And we can start over.
