When hope refuses to die
There's a darkness in my soul

A heavy weight bearing me down.

Chained to this prison and pit

The walls before me too high to scale.

My hands are too broken to lay hold,

My legs too feeble to lift up

All my being is cast upon the dead ground.

Trapped and helpless.

Eyes blurred by disillusionment

Hide themselves from the light

What is true and what is false?

Disdained with the blue skies above.

Behold, something does arise yet.

Beyond my control, outside my ability

A feeble cry escapes from within

Could a heart go on in death?

To whom do you cry? There is no one left.

Who will hear your solitary calls,

Is there anyone left to remember you?

Is there anyone left to love you?

Yet she flies defiantly against the grain

Effortlessly through the deadened weight

A free bird escaping the cage to a place she knows

Bird, what hope do you know?
