It wasn't really about the milk.

His office was reorganized, shunting him to some dreary little department that no one noticed.

She had been laid off, and the endless bow-and-scrape to find work was running her ragged.

He missed his usual train, and the downpour chased the errand clean from his mind.

There were tears and shouts and jibes and cruel promises.

But they both secretly agreed...

... it wasn't really about the milk.
