A conversation between 4 friends. One who had good news. Another reeling from it.
i smiled; a bittersweet smile
i'm seeing someone, she said
it has been six months...

i smiled; a nostalgic smile
i think it's time we move on, i said
it had been 5 years...

i smiled; a pained smile
looking at us sitting around the table
will it still be four next time around...

i smiled; a fake smile
laughter all around as they discuss
three of us need to help him out here...

i smiled; a loving smile
looking at her across of me
what it could have been, the two of us

i smiled; alone
