A poem for a lost baby.
For my baby.

I weep for you, I ache for you,
your presence I shall miss.
I write for you, I pray for you;
my words my farewell kiss.

I'll never know the shape of you
nor see you come to be,
and never will I play with you
or hold you close to me.

Can't see your face, can't feel your touch,
nor even know your name.
Can't hear your voice, can't speak to you,
but love you just the same.

A boy? A girl? I'll never know-
my thoughts are running wild;
an empty womb, a hollow heart,
my missing angel child.

I loved you then, I love you now,
and know I always will-
and if a hundred years should pass
I know I'd want you still.

For though you'll never walk the earth
or breathe the outside air,
and though you'll never feel the rain
or see the sunlight fair;

I cannot say you never lived
or weren't here at all,
I carried you within me once
so fragile and so small.

My dearest child, my gift to you
is proof that you were here:
a simple verse, a memory
to always keep you near.
