Inspired by a friends picture from a visit to the Lake District recently
Districts

Echoes ring through canyons
Chiming in the deep
Skimming cross the shallows
Where poorer quarters sleep
The other half it splinters
High up on the rocks
Shelter's sought for winter
By mystic lakes and lochs
Hiding midst the bracken
the horn it sounds and wakes
Heralds in the Kraken
Deep within the lake
As heathens make their shelter
In cracks amidst the shale
In crevasses they cower
Chalky, cleaved and pale
Seeking out salvation
Somewhere to hold ground
To set out stall and station
A sanctuary found
Spaces where thoughts stand bold
And in the chaos play
A place where gods and monsters old
Can't strip your voice away
Some voices, they won't quiver
Some voices, they can't quell
The trial of fate's river
Our bedtime story tells
Of tales carved in sandstone
underneath times stains
Lakes resolute, they stand alone
… your echo still remains
