A collection of haikus written for the WDC teen contest.
Sniveling habit
Suede shoes with bright yellow socks?
What is wrong with him?

He smashed his glasses
He walked right into the wall
He must be mental

Everyone knows it
They think he’s crazy as well
Guess it’s not just me

Maybe we should talk
He looks lonely after all
But he smells like dirt

I follow him home
He lives in a sewer drain
He must be a rat

I peer inside it.
The creaky wooden doorway.
Hiding a long hall.

The floor is slimy.
And I guess the walls are too.
I need a shower.

It is dark in here.
Everything is cold and damp.
I’ve lost track of him.

I can hear a sound.
Like metal scraping on stone.
I have goosebumps now.

There he is, the boy!
Sitting in a rocking chair
Under a desk lamp.

Should I say something?
What if he is dangerous?
I am in too deep.

“Hey Rat-Boy!” I say.
He blinks at me with black eyes.
His stare melts my heart.

Maybe he is kind?
Does he want to play a game?
I should have brought snacks.
