Observations of Nature
" A Walk in The Woods "

I always love to walk the woods
like when I was a boy.
Then all my worries melt away
and turn to thoughts of joy.

The early morn is best I'm told
to catch what nature hides.
No one seems to care I'm there as
I walk in easy strides.

When nothing's left to stew about
my mood will take a turn
as I traverse the deepest green
on paths through forest fern.

Now all the autumn leaves have changed
to yellow, gold and red.
The bright fall colors shining through
still dance within my head.

The timid deer have come to see
who's walking all alone.
They stop to flick their pointed ears
and sniff a brown pine cone.

The red fox hides just out of sight
for the mouse he must attack.
Then to the left I see a fawn,
white spots upon its back.

This path I'm on will fork quite soon
so which way shall I choose ?
The left it seems will take me home,
the right to better views.

The right I chose to distant hill,
above a rocky gorge.
and there below a waterfall
but on I had to forge.

Now all the things I covet so
have never made me blind.
The woods are still so clearly etched
in the pages of my mind.
