A poor boy living in rural Kentucky as the oldest of 5 brother's.

Brothers

Brothers do you remember when we were little boy's?
The times we endured many sorrows and some joys?
The days we walked the railroad tracks to gather coal?
On those freezing days to heat our home from the cold.

The mornings with Mom's biscuits on those cold days?
A piece of bacon and an egg to keep the hunger away.
How I wish I could go back to gathering around the table.
With Mom and Dad there keeping our manners stable.

My brothers these memories I'll always cherish with you.
I remember all the dreams we had that didn't come true.
Living in those days we were a poor family from Kentucky.
Dad worked everyday to keep us fed, we were very lucky.

Mom washed our clothes in an old galvanized wash tub.
She had to scrub real hard to clean all the soil and mud.
Can you remember those scary stories about Harry Fox?
I told you in bed when you were no more than just tot's?

We cuddled to each other on those freezing cold nights.
Then our love for one another kept us from having a fight.
All these loving memories I kept stored deep in my mind.
When we lived and loved as brothers in a long ago time.

Time has parted our company to our own families alone.
We now live with our own families and not the old home.
Mom and Dad have long since passed to heaven above.
All that is left of the old home is memories and our love.
