Love lingers forever after.

Brecken's Bridge

by

E C Wesch

Twenty years have come and gone since last I saw your face.
Hidden in the shadows, of our secret place.
We swam beneath Brecken's Bridge to cool us from the heat.
And lay among the flowers, grass tickling at our feet.
Our hearts were young and could endure each trial that we'd been through.
No obstacles could hinder, the love I felt for you.

But in the winter of forty four my love was taken away.
Now in the shadows of Brecken's Bridge, no longer do we play.
The icicles do glisten hang down from Brecken's eave.
Where I kissed your lips so gently, and now my heart does grieve.
The beauty of that covered bridge will linger in my heart.
It's where my life began, it's where it fell apart.

My life has changed in many ways yet still I feel the pain.
The memory of your silence, bring tears to me again.
Now here I stand on Brecken's Bridge much older than before.
And think about that awful day you went away to war.
I decorate this bridge in honor of your name.
Knowing that forever will never be the same.
