Walking a dangerous beat

" Night Watch "

All alone in the lair of the lions,
Sixty killers, rapists and thieves;
Prayers of a widow left cryin,
If my life, they decide to seize;

Tradin my workin day for pay
I'm my brother's true keeper.
Let the cruel sleepin dogs lay.
Keep away The Grim Reaper;

I walk a dark and lonely beat.
Trustin none of them at all,
This ain't a Holiday Inn Suite.
Walkin with a quiet footfall;

A ring of keys rests on my side.
The two-way keeps me in touch.
Watchful eyes watch, very sly!
No comfort here, not very much.

Darkness calls the night watch.
I'm man's true keeper of man.
Their lives and dreams botched,
A vigil, only few men can stand;
