Poetic tribute to our honored dead (Honoring Our Veterans contest)
Tagged with Honor

"Please, father, tell me of these shiny things
all draped upon the headstones here today,
and also why the sight of them should bring
a tear or two, when everything's okay."

"The dog tags that you see today displayed
commemorate the lives of soldiers past,
who for their country sacrifices made
and in her service bravely breathed their last."

"But Jimmy's sister wears one on a string -
although I think hers doesn't have a name,
just 'End the war, the cause don't mean a thing' -
with flecks of orange leaping up like flame."

"Although they'd beg to differ with her choice,
they gave their lives so she would have a voice."
