This is an essay about probably one of the most intrepid freedom fighters of India.
THE MARTYR IS LOST.HIS LEGACY CONTINUES.

When the world’s most tyrant dynasty took over our country, there was a total state of helpleness and anarchy. A state of complete despondence prevailed in the minds of, then the 7 crore Indians, who were politically challenged and mentally abused. Their minds were in discrepancies, between the foreign vindication yet saving their motherland. But, how could a population that was so timid, yet patriotic overthrow and beat the British platoons and their far reaching ammunitions? The British dynasty was considered to be the most savage and the vicious dynasties of all, a superpower that could not, forget being overthrown, even challenged for that matter. The state of the people of the country was at an all time low. The revolutionaries were of some help, but an extra spark was needed to ignite the fire, to shake the core of the beast’s very foundation, and to bury it, once and for all.
The world was moved, the country swayed, people inspired and souls rekindled. The birth of, palpably, one of the most intrepid freedom fighters changed the prospective of the suppressed countrymen. His name was –BHAGAT SINGH. He was born on Sept, 27, 1907 in the areas in the vicinity of phagwara nawashaher road. The spirit to rejuvenate lost spirits existed in his blood. His grandfather , Sardar Arjun Singh , his father ,Sardar Kishan Singh ( a revolutionary who faced 42 political trails ), his mother , Shrimati Vidyavati , Punjab Mata and his uncle , Sardar Ajit Singh , were all supernal revolutionaries who fought against the British tyranny relentlessly . As a child, Bhagat Singh was inspired to give back something to his motherland. He was extremely moved and perplexed with the despicable conditions that the country was in.
THE JALLIAWALA BAGH MASSACRE
Then, on April 16, 1919, THE JALLIAWALA BAGH MASSACRE happened. Considered to be one of the most savage and brutal acts on humanity of the 20th century, it buttressed the fact the British were stooping to an all time low. On the peaceful day of Baisaikhi, a congregation was held at the serene bagh, to commemorate the festival. Near about 1600 Indian men, women and children had gathered that day there. Less did they know that they were about to become a part of one of the most deadly crimes against humanity and become a part of a bloodshed that would cower the generations of Indians and citizens across the world. Then, the martinet, General Dyer entered, with his 2000 platoons, from a narrow lane in the rows of two that was also the only exit of the bagh. He ordered his platoons to fire open in the air first. Baba Ram Singh, then was preaching and asked the crowd there not to panic. But, suddenly, the general filled with an esoteric contempt for them, went on a mad killing spree, one that has taken him down in the history as one of the most viscous minds of the world. According to eye witness accounts, a wife came back to the bagh after the gunfires only to find her husband’s body headless and dragged it to the nearby forest where they both lay for the night. She then cremated him afterwards. An uncle went back to find his nephew, hit by bullets, on his upper lip, in his eyes and in his skull. Overall, there were five bullets in a child’s face, let alone the rest of the body. People who managed to see that horrendous bloodshed claim that there wasn’t an inch of that ground that wasn’t covered with blood. That was the doomsday, for the British more than it was for us. People were outraged, angered, and moreover, determined to overthrow the British Empire anyhow. The plan worked against the general. His reason for shooting innocent people was , that he wanted to tell Indians once and for all , that they could not win over the British tyranny and that all their efforts , like previous ones , would be futile . Less did he know that it was just the antithesis. His annotations after the brutal mass murder were that he would have shot more people, if he had the requisite ammunition. He ran out of stock, so he couldn’t shoot more . His comments further excruciated the already existing pain that persisted in the minds of the Indians. They were less horrified and more angered than ever . One such person who was filled with contempt was, Bhagat Singh. That day he took a train to Amritsar, went to the bagh and took a handful of that sinful sand and kept in his pocket. He went back home that night and kept a fast. He was sixteen then. He refused to eat mangoes as well, his favorite food. He told his sister everything about the incident and even she was terrified. According to his family members , he placed the fresh flowers on the holy earth every morning , investing new life in the garden’s dust taking more inspiration from the wounded orchard . One early morning he went to the river Ravi and pledged that he would color it’s waters with the colors of his blood , which would mingle with the five streams of the Punjab , to create what he called Freedom ‘s Flood .

A teen of mere sixteen was enraged with violent thoughts, thoughts that could cower the British Empire. He took inspiration from the bravery of those who died, even threw themselves in the well, so that they would at least die, an HONORABLE DEATH. It was at that time, he decided that the time has come to end it, for once and for all. Bhagat Singh was more of a symbol. He had the vision of a dreamer. He did not become popular because of his fact of terrorism, but he seemed to vindicate , for the moment , the honor of Lala Lajpat Rai and through him of the nation.

Bhagat Singh revolutionized the thinking of the people of the country after the infamous incident of Simon Commission. The British government arranged a 7 committee member to come over to India and make a change in the constitutional reforms. On 30th October ,1928 , the Lahore revolutionaries decided to boycott the commission by wearing black and engaging in a peaceful demonstrations by raising slogans such as ,GO BACK, SIMON . It was all arranged by Lala Lajpat Rai , the Lion of Punjab. The police then resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The deputy superintendent of police(who was later killed by Bhagat Singh ), Mr. J.P. Saunders pounced on the crowd like a hungry wolf. He had beaten Lala Lajpat Rai, to this death. For Bhagat Singh to witness the murder of his mentor was, disconcerting.
Then he pledged to murder Simon and the perpetrators of this despicable crime. At 4.20 p.m., December 17th , Mr. Saunders left his office on his motorcycle. And then subsequently, murdered by Bhagat Singh’s and his comrades. . He became a symbol, the act was forgotten, the symbol remained and within a few months , each town and village of Punjab , and the entire northern India , resounded with his name .
THE BOMB SCARE
Bhagat Singh made numerous trips between Agra and Delhi before the bomb was to be thrown in the assembly. The day that was chosen, was the one when some contentious and oppressive bills were to be passed. The aim of the bomb was to make the deaf hear. It was meant to be totally innocuous. The Hindustan Republican Association decided that the right time to throw the bomb would be when the viceroy would bring the statute book through the back door. They were only supposed to throw the bomb, spread their leaflets and raise the slogan of “ INQALAB ZINDABAD” . Bhagat Singh got himself photographed that day, along with the second man, B.K.DUTTA, which appeared the following day in The Hindustan Times. When the bill was being announced at the assembly , Bhagat Singh threw the first bomb and B.K. Dutta , second one. The viceroy was terrified even more when Bhagat Singh shot two empty fires in the air . It is however, remarkable to notice that the Indian national leaders, Pandit Motilal Nehru, Vithal Bhai Patel, Madan Mohan Malviya and Mohammed Ali Jinnah remained calm in their seats. Manifestoes were spread across the court that said “ EXPLOSION NECESSARY TO MAKE THE DEAF HEAR “ .Bhagat Singh could have easily escaped but he chose not to. He and Dutt went to the jail, voluntarily. Sergeant terry was terrified to arrest them. By a strange coincidence, when he was being taken at the police station, his wife Durga, bhagwati Charan and little Sachi. Durga gathered all the mettle in the world and composed herself to embrace the happenstance that would follow such an audacious attempt to free INDIA.

Bhagat Singh was hanged on 24th March, 1931 . His death created an uproar in the country like never before. People were enraged to a level where slogans were raised for Gandhiji to relinquish his present status in the country, and retreat. In Lahore the authorities warned European women to keep still for ten days. In Bombay and Madras, there were violent demonstrations. The demonstrators came in clash with the police in Calcutta, in which 141 people were killed, 586 wounded, and 341 arrested. Such was an uproar that intensified the freedom movement, giving the Britishers a grotty time. Bhagat Singh’s involvement in the freedom movement is such that words would fail to describe its importance.

THEN AND NOW.
Bhagat Singh dreamt of free India. He dreamt of a land, where it’s people would live courageously. He was honest, indefatigable and worked relentlessly for his nation. He redefined the word patriotism. His life is exemplary. He is a mentor for anyone, who wants to do something for his country. He wanted a truce, Political and emotional one, that would act as a support system for generations to come.
But the present condition of Indian politics is deplorable. It’s corruption has reached to a level , where it is beyond repair. Bhagat Singh‘s dream world, as it seems will persist only in dreams. What he imagined for the country to what it has become today is totally antithesis. He, being a person of supernal bravery, has left such an ascendancy on us that should move our soul, and give us Goosebumps and encourage us to become better INDIANS. Our political condition is so bad that the India that was before independence is much the same that it is right now. The only difference being, its run by our own people who are too busy despising each other to the level where we sometimes reach a state of total annihilation.
His dream is strong, but the people who see it are not probably, strong enough to visualize it. They choose to ignore the sanctity with which he concocted an intrepid team of people who then fought for our nation. They had determination, we have not. They had the will, we do not. They were intrepid , we are not. The problem lies within us. But that is not the scary part. The part that bothers is that we are all aware of it, but we neglect it quite comfortably. Its every person for himself and ironically, EVERY GOVERNMENT FOR ITSELF, as well. Millions laid down their lives following Bhagat Singh’s inspirational move at the court. We read about it, feel good and move on. His dreams are not unachievable. They are as astute and simple as they can be. They are simpler to achieve than any career driven dream we seek to achieve. Respect, honor, integrity, valor- words we all use to describe Bhagat Singh’s life. But how often do we incorporate them ? Several such questions can be raised, but the answers to those are unfathomable knots deep in the ocean of corruption , with politicians as viscous as sharks, gourmandizing every single citizen who tries to do something different in the name of patriotism for his nation. These devil-tongued politicians of today, can bend steel, kill fire or even raise Satan from hell with their wayward , out of the world excuses , for eloquent public speeches they make! We need a change. We don’t need another Bhagat Singh. There is a Bhagat Singh in each and every one of us. That is what Bhagat Singh always told us, to be intrepid, to be audacious and follow truly, in what we belive is right.
Bhagat Singh lit the torch. It is upon our conscience to raise it, keep it strong and never let it die.
